Little Cabin in the woods

Near the line between Grand Traverse and Benzie counties I found a real gem this week.  

Cedar Run Creek Natural Area is a must-see if you are a hiker

From Hardwoods to cedars and from creeks to ponds there are awesome views for all.

About an hour in, we found this little cabin.  If you arent looking you will miss it.  Im told that it was on the property when the Township acquired it and they decided to leave it there.  The previous owner had built it for his 

"get away cottage"   Its very rustic with no power or water but it does have your basic outhouse nearby!  The sound of the creek nearby are peaceful. Inside there are 2 chairs a bunk a table and some bare basic provisions  should you have to spend the night.  The skunks and spiders might not be good room mates  lol!

If you find the cabin, please leave everything as it is for others to enjoy, and let me know you were there.

Seeking Northern Lights

I had seen forecasts for favorable conditions on several sites.  The weather forecasts all day were predicting clouds and more clouds.  I know that if there isnt clear skies to the North that it isnt worth the time...

I woke up at 2 AM, couldnt sleep
checked the aurora sites,  numbers look good!
checked the weather and clear sky sites
a small window of time looked promising
between 3 and 4 AM...

When i arrived the sky was glowing to the North
I quickly set the camera up, I had all the settings done earlier.
On the tripod. check focus... click

Over the next hour the sky danced with greens and yellows and a few reds.  The camera catches them better than our eyes but the lights were bright enough that they reflected off the water

Sleep, who needs sleep?
